Arwa Yaser Khader Al-Qassas

5-year-old Arwa from Gaza was an active child. She attended kindergarten and planned on becoming a doctor in the future, just like her family friend Dr. Arwa Al-Masri. She liked to play with her siblings and shared her toys with them. After she was born she stayed in hospital for 3 months. "She was very close to me," said her 40-year-old father Yaser.

On 21 July 2014, the Al-Qas'sas family relocated to the ground floor of their house thinking it would be safer. While women in the family were preparing food in the afternoon, they were targeted by Israeli forces. The missiles struck the house without prior warning. 9 people were killed on the spot, including Arwa.  The family’s bodies were found scattered around. Many others were seriously injured.
