4-year-old Deema from Gaza was easy going at times, but extremely stubborn at other times. She was enthusiastic about going to kindergarten. She was very close to her little brother Zeyad. She loved drawing and coloring. “She loved to search through her uncle's belongings,” said her grandmother, while crying.
On 21 July 2014, Mahmoud's family decided to evacuate their house due to intense and random shelling by Israeli forces. When they had reached the yard and were waiting for the car, they were directly targeted with a missile from an Israeli drone. 8 members of the family were killed on the spot, including Deema.
