Sixteen-year-old Emad from Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip was a calm child. He was sociable and loved by many. He had a lot of friends. He loved playing football and he was a huge Real Madrid fan. He also liked swimming and fishing. Eman was an outstanding student at school. He wanted to be an electrical engineer,” his mother Raghda, 36, said.
On 23 July 2014, Emad’s family received a warning by Israeli forces to evacuate their house. The house was evacuated and then bombarded. At 10:00 am on 2 August 2014, Emad returned to the house to check on his pigeons. When he reached the front door an Israeli warplane targeted him with a missile. There was no prior warning. “Emad was instantly killed,” said his mother.
