16-year-old Omar was a friendly boy and very close to his father. He used to help him with his work and hoped to work in his business when he was older. He loved riding his bicycle, driving, and raising the family's chickens. He was a caring and compassionate boy and tried to help his uncles who were struggling financially due to the dire socio-economic situation in the Gaza Strip.
Omar and his brother Mohammed were two of the last victims of the Israeli military bombardment of the summer of 2014. On 26 August 2014, Omar and Mohammed were at their family's farm. Their father had told them not to leave the farm before 7pm, the time at which the truce with Israel was due to come into effect, but when they heard an explosion, they jumped on their motorbike and headed to the site of the attack, to check the site and to help the wounded. While they were on the way, they were targeted by an Israeli drone. Both died instantly.
